The origin of the leprechaun dates back to the 8th century tales of water spirits that were known as 'luchorpán' which means 'small body.' These spirits were known to merge with your household fairy and develop a heavy palette for drinking. The joke is no one's cellar was safe!
Well this small but hearty lad will be on his best behavior when he's welcomed into your home. The only bad habit he has is smoking his pipe!
This Leprechaun is handmade in my home studio. Each ceramic is poured using the slip-casting method. Once poured, it is removed from the ceramic mold, cleaned and fired in the kiln. Once the piece is fired, it cools and is cleaned once more before being painted with acrylics. The final step is sealing the paint with a clear varnish so it keeps it's vibrant colors!
